'AMMA' always asked visitors to take 'prasadam' at he Annapurnalaym- not food. That it is, in fact, 'prasadam' was amply demonstrated thousand times.
In 1983, SmtRukmini, wife of S. Mohana Krishna, had a peculiar problem. She, simply, could not ingest any food. A number of specialists were consulted to no avail. In fact their tests revealed no malfunction.
After eighteen days passed in this manner, the dejected couple, as a last resort, visited Jillellamudi and presented the problem to 'AMMA', who patiently heard them through. All the time, 'AMMA' was holding sister Rukmini's hand and looking steadily at her, full of compassion. 'AMMA' asked if Rukmini would like a glass of butter milk. As it was 'AMMA' that suggested it, sister Rukmini acquiesced and accepted and thankfully drank it. To her surprise, she could retain it! Later, they went to the Hymalayam, where, at the suggestion of Mohana Krishna, Rukmini took a small quantity of 'pulihora' a spiced rice preparation, as 'prasadam'. It was 18 days since she had consumed any rice preparation, let alone a spiced one. That also, she could retain! More surprising was that from the next day, she sat along with others and could consume food normally without any ill effect!.
